As I told all of you the other day, Dustin is busy stocking up our arsenal with MidegeMan inspired patterns.   As I sat down in the car after class, with a smile splayed across Dustin’s face, the words “I’ve finally tied a fly I am proud of” came out of his mouth..  Dustin is always very highly critical of himself, for no reason really, we’ve caught a lot of fish on his flies, it is just his nature.  Knowing this about him, I was super anxious to see this new pattern.  My words when I saw it, “Wow, this is cool.”

Inspired by the Go-To Prince from Poudre Canyon Chronicles, here’s Dustin tie.  The design is the same, but he changed the body color (he’s obsessed with this blue right now), the bead color and the hackle.  I was proud of him for being creative with his available materials, we don’t have the jingle for “material grocery” trips.

A bit of confession, I love prince nymphs and last summer Dustin tied all sorts of variations.  We used them everywhere we fished, and most importantly caught fish.  I’m sure the same fate is in store for this pattern.

Progress report:  Dustin made a big step the other day, he commented on a blog! YAY!  I hope this is the first step for him getting a little more confident about typing things on the net.  It’s time he starts writing his own posts!

Right On! Now that little fly is going to turn on some fish… Rick Takahashi has alot of usefull patterns for that area.. I've heard some fishy tales about the origonal and the "knockoffs" knockoffs is a good word…
That little red glass bead will do something for you that another flies will not.. the time and place will smack the both of you in the face.. in a good way.

Dustin, I read you comment, It stood out like a sore thumb! I'll share a famous quote from a not so famous person, " There is no such thing as a dumb question, just dump people who dont ask questions"…
That being said, and the pride that I understand that you have in your work. Blog away and suck off the internet titty (if you will) Your flies are looking sweet and your learning great patterns fast fast. In a matter of minutes someone is going to be looking to you for advise… After soaking what you can from others the only thing to do besides catch fish, is share a little of what you have learned with others.
Question: What size is the fly in the above picture, and is it on a 2488? It looks like I need about three in my box to sit alongside the origonal GO2 and its little "boy duke"…just another knockoff..

Nice tie Dustin!

Great looking fly! Well done! Wish I could tie like that. Tell Dustin there's nothing to fear on the Net. Well, usually….

I'm just going to say this because it's driving me nuts.

I'm not sure how you pronounce Dmas. In my head it sounds like Dumbass. Perhaps you intended to do this, or perhaps you didn't.

@Clif – THANK YOU, CLIF!!! I have long told Dustin that his nickname, gave to him by his high school football team, sounds like dumbass. This is how I say it all the time. He gets mad and says no it is D Mas(D pronounced alone and mass on the end). I say, to me, it is still and will always be dumbass.

@Brian – Thanks for the compliment. I keep telling him there's nothing to fear, alas he does not listen.

@Josh – I read your comment to Dustin and he smiled. Thanks for the compliment to him. You are right, Knockoff is a good word. We have Takahashi's Modern Midges and he's referenced it a bit as well. He says he's going to respond to your comment…we shall see!

Maybe you should add a hyphen when you type it. Like D-Mas

Tell him I'm sorry for validating his wife's argument. I unknowingly broke the bro code.

Haven't been up that way in a while, but the section where the upper hatchery pool sets in the upper canyon should fish real well with this little pattern! Dustin you're doing great with the tying!
